We all know bread making is magical mystical business. I have had many failures. Finally though a sweet victory. Picture this. It was a late and gorgeous evening. Kid was asleep. Husband was working. I was “hungry bored” which means I was about to consume the entire contents of my pantry while looking at things online or I was going to focus and make something.
After just one pantry raid I came upon this recipe from a site called Tammy’s Recipes by way of random internet search. It looked easy enough so I gave it a go – although I like to be creative so I had to make a couple changes. Here’s what I did: Read more
I don’t know if it is the end of the school year beginning of the summer transition that has me feeling a step away from mental breakdown or I simply drink too much coffee in the morning. Either way, I find myself in serious need of some painting time this Saturday morning. When things get a little wonky you gotta straighten out somehow and painting is a great way for me to do it. These very little paintings are perfect for a morning meltdown aversion. Now if you’ll excuse me I am going to make more coffee…
The magic of the inter-webs astounds me!
One of my blog posts was featured on the front page of WordPress the other day (thankyou wordpress gods!) which drove a lot of traffic my way not to mention many wonderful comments from strangers.
One comment led me to New Mind Snack which had a great post about making apple cake. I had never heard of apple cake. But I had apples and plenty of late night ambition. Pretty soon, I would have apple cake too! Read more
I think the moral of the story is if you make your own [anything] and you have taken the time and care to nurture and do it right – you will love what you made.
And now I will ramble on about cookies.
I made the Jacques Torres cookie! Well, my version of it, at least. Subtle change: I used organic Green and Blacks 85% dark cocoa (chopped up thinly by me) instead of ordering or buying special “disc” shaped pieces. My cookie turned out flatter than I imagined…but I have never had a real Jacques Torres Cookie so I have no idea. Read more
Yep. That’s some black coffee. Today I had a little free time and decided to create a way for all my recipes and projects to be organized. I grabbed an old empty plastic binder and filled it clear page protectors. Yep – like a twelve year old making a book report – I printed out pages of my favorite recipes and craft ideas and inserted them into a three ring binder. And I’m proud of it! Even more proud am I of my way awesome cover design. Found some old collage paper with fancy artwork on it…snip snip…glue glue…thin sharpie….insert into sleeve….Good to go! I can’t wait to start using my notebook in the kitchen and never lose a good recipe again. And now I am going to go do something really cool like….umm….pick up my kid from girl scouts. Yeah, pretty rad.
I know what you are thinking. Pumpkin? In spring? C’mon, Lauren. I say, “Get over it, people!” I wanted to use up this can of organic pumpkin I have had in my pantry for several weeks now. I thought about bread, cookies, but today it hit me. I can make scones! I have always enjoyed scones at bakeries and never really knew what I was eating. Turns out it’s pretty much a dolled up biscuit in the shape of a pie piece. After searching different scone recipes online I finally figured one out that will work for me. Read more
