First it was vegetables. Now it is just about anything I can crack open and see what’s inside. I’m in love with this piece of wood that fell from the walnut tree in our backyard. Our kind neighbor chopped it all up for us and left these piles of amazing pretty circles. This one is my favorite! Reminds me of an essay I had to write in college about whether or not someone can find a piece of wood on the beach and put it in a gallery calling it art. I think I argued both sides because I know it’s beautiful – but I also know that no one made it beautiful necessarily. Unless you count my awesome photograph above. Or this lovely original painting below that I did not make but wish I did:

Nothing beats a long work week like going out at the end of it for some good ol rockin good times. I could ask for no better music to rock out to than Kristie Stremel and the 159ers. Saturday we escaped to catch a live show. I feel really lucky because they are a local band and they better start playing here in town more often. Every weekend would be nice! But I know they have to tour and stuff. So, if you ever ever ever see this band name on any bill you have to go! For me
But also because you will have a good time. Kristie has an amazing energy not to mention a realllly pretty rock voice. Together with her band she’s unstoppable. Speaking of unstoppable….check out this song and buy the brand new album!

I was wandering through the bookshelves (that are filled with amazing old art books) in my art room looking for something to read to my brand new baby kindergartners. What would be a good introduction to art class? I feel like I struck gold finding this cool old picture book. It’s called Paint All Kinds of Pictures by Arnold Spilka. First of all, it has that great old book smell and it also has that great barely there illustration style with very few colored pages – color just in the right spots. I love it. It is all about how your feelings can come out in your art. It even has good stuff for spotting opposites, differences, even makes them think about space and size. And yep, I am going to spoil the ending for you. Here is the last page. No pictures even…
My new favorite book. Will read every year to my brand new baby kindergartners

Yes, this post is about a tomato. Nothing particularly interesting except that I ate maybe six of these little home grown wonders yesterday and it was practically a religious experience. Yes, my perspective of things that are interesting have changed since I became a parent. My summer days are completely different than they were last year. Since motherhood I have thought more about foods and eating habits and although I have always liked tomatoes (well, okay maybe since I was a grown up) I never really thought much about how great a really great tomato is. Look at it – look at the pretty design inside! So red and delicious. Sprinkle a little salt top…mmm mm m.
*please note: this is a home grown tomato that I did not grow. Huge thanks to my neighbors for being pretty handy in the backyard and sharing their delicious crop.

My current dress lust is brought to you by Adelaide’s Homesewn, a shop I saw on Etsy’s front page this afternoon. And by major coincidence, this seller is a Kansas City person must like me. What fun! Maybe I can shop stalk her in real life. For now, I am just enjoying window shopping through her amazing collection of dresses and other pretty things.
